A lined ball valve isolates corrosive process media while limiting contact between the fluid and metal valve surfaces. The electric configuration combines fluoropolymer lining, a full-bore passage and a floating-ball structure for automated quarter-turn shutoff. PTFE, PFA and FEP lining options provide different temperature ranges, while flanged pressure ratings include PN10, PN16 and 150 LBS.
Fluoropolymer Protection Inside the Valve
A lined valve places a fluoropolymer barrier between the process medium and the metal body. This structure suits acid, alkali and other corrosive fluids, while molten alkali metals and elemental fluorine are outside the stated service range. PTFE, PFA and FEP offer different temperature limits, so the lining needs to match the actual process conditions.
Floating Ball Sealing and Full Bore Flow
The floating-ball structure maintains contact with the seat during shutoff, while the full-bore passage creates a continuous flow path through the valve. An integrated ball-and-stem structure reduces the risk of stem separation during pressure changes. Herringbone and annular PTFE packing support stem sealing during operation.
Pressure and Temperature Limits for Different Linings
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Connection | Flanged |
| Pressure rating | PN10, PN16, 150 LBS |
| PTFE temperature | -29°C to 180°C |
| PFA temperature | -29°C to 200°C |
| FEP temperature | -29°C to 150°C |
| Flow design | Full-bore, floating-ball |
| Gasket options | PTFE, PFA, FEP |
For a ptfe lined ball valve, pressure and temperature should be evaluated together instead of considering the liner material alone. PFA provides a higher stated upper temperature limit than PTFE and FEP in this configuration. The medium, concentration, operating pressure and temperature should remain within the applicable service conditions.
Electric Actuation for Corrosive Process Lines
Electric actuation provides remote quarter-turn valve operation without manual movement at the pipeline. This configuration fits automated chemical transfer, dosing and process isolation systems where valve operation is connected to an electrical control system.
Actuator torque and travel should match the valve operating requirements. Control functions should also correspond with the intended duty so the ball reaches its required open and closed positions without unnecessary mechanical loading.
Flange Alignment and Liner Protection
Installation has a direct effect on sealing performance. Flange alignment should remain correct during assembly to avoid uneven loading on the valve. Liner and sealing surfaces should be free from scratches, debris and contamination, while bolt tightening should follow the applicable piping procedure.
During service, changes in packing leakage, operating torque or actuator movement may indicate wear or a sealing issue. Inspection of the liner, seat and stem packing can identify changes before they affect shutoff performance.
Corrosion Isolation With Automated Flow Control
A lined ball valve combines fluoropolymer protection, full-bore flow and electric quarter-turn operation in one valve arrangement. Matching the liner, pressure-temperature range, sealing components and actuator to the process conditions supports stable operation in corrosive pipeline systems.
