A lined butterfly valve isolates corrosive process media while limiting direct contact between the fluid and metal valve surfaces. The wafer configuration uses fluoropolymer lining with electric quarter-turn actuation, making it suitable for remote shutoff in chemical and process pipelines. Available pressure ratings are PN10, PN16 and 150 LBS, while PTFE, PFA and FEP provide different operating temperature limits.

Fluoropolymer Lining for Corrosive Flow Paths

A ptfe lined butterfly valve places PTFE between the process medium and the metal body. The design supports bi-directional flow under maximum working pressure, while the valve port corresponds closely to the pipeline diameter to maintain flow capacity. The fluoropolymer barrier limits direct exposure of metal surfaces to corrosive fluids and suits service where chemical resistance is required.

Disc Rotation and Electric Operation

The butterfly disc opens or closes the flow path through a quarter-turn movement. Electric actuation allows remote operation and can interface with accessories such as limit switches, positioners and manual override devices. This arrangement suits repeatable on-off service where valve movement must connect with an automated control system.

The wafer body also keeps the installation length compact between pipe flanges. During operation, the disc rotates within the lined flow path, so correct actuator torque and travel are needed to reach the required open and closed positions.

PTFE PFA FEP Service Limits

PFA lined butterfly valves provide a stated upper temperature limit of 200°C, compared with 180°C for PTFE and 150°C for FEP. A fep lined butterfly valve therefore has a lower stated temperature ceiling than the PFA configuration. Actual service suitability depends on the medium, concentration, pressure, temperature and liner compatibility rather than lining material alone.

Installation and Sealing at the Flange

Wafer installation requires correct flange alignment so the disc can rotate without interference. Sealing surfaces should remain clean and undamaged during assembly, and the gasket should match the selected lining and process conditions. Bolt tightening should follow the applicable piping procedure to avoid uneven loading on the lined body.

Before commissioning, actuator torque and travel should be checked to confirm complete opening and closing. During service, abnormal torque, leakage or incomplete disc movement can indicate a liner, seat or actuator issue requiring inspection.
