A lined gate valve improves corrosion resistance by using PTFE, FEP, or PFA lining to isolate aggressive media from metal components. PTFE suits general corrosive fluids, PFA fits higher temperature and purity requirements, and FEP is suitable for moderate-temperature applications requiring flexibility. Material selection depends on chemical compatibility, temperature, pressure, and sealing needs.

How Lining Materials Affect Valve Performance

A lined gate valve creates a protective barrier between process fluids and the metal body. The fluoropolymer lining reduces corrosion risks and improves valve reliability in chemical pipelines.

Different materials provide different advantages:

  • 🧪 PTFE lining
    • Resists acids, solvents, and alkaline media.
    • Suitable for common chemical applications.
  • 🌡️ PFA lining
    • Offers lower permeability and higher temperature capability.
    • Fits systems requiring cleaner fluid contact.
  • ⚙️ FEP lining
    • Provides chemical resistance and flexibility.
    • Works well in moderate-temperature conditions.

Choosing PTFE, FEP and PFA Materials

Material selection should match actual operating conditions. A ptfe lined gate valve is commonly used where chemical resistance and stable sealing are required.

PTFE provides broad chemical compatibility and low friction. It is often selected for acid transfer, solvent handling, and corrosive fluid systems.

PFA provides a smooth surface and lower permeability than PTFE. It is suitable for applications requiring fluid purity and stable material performance.

FEP combines flexibility with corrosion resistance, making it suitable for moderate-temperature systems requiring fluoropolymer protection.

Selection Factor Consideration
Chemical media Confirm compatibility with process fluids
Temperature range Match material capability with conditions
Pressure rating Select according to pipeline requirements
Sealing performance Evaluate shutoff performance

Structural Features of Corrosion Resistant Gate Valves

A corrosion resistant gate valve combines a metal pressure body with a fluoropolymer lining layer. The lining protects wetted areas while maintaining mechanical strength.

Main features include:

  1. Full flow passage lining

The lined channel reduces direct contact between corrosive fluids and metal surfaces.

  1. Protected sealing area

The lined gate structure supports reliable shutoff performance.

  1. Straight flow path

The gate design reduces flow resistance when fully open.

  1. Material flexibility

PTFE, FEP, and PFA options allow selection based on chemical and temperature conditions.

Application Selection Guide

A teflon lined gate valve is commonly used as another term for PTFE-lined designs. It is selected for systems requiring chemical resistance, low friction, and stable sealing.

Selection guidelines:

  • PTFE suits acids, solvents, and many corrosive chemicals.
  • PFA fits higher temperature applications with lower permeability requirements.
  • FEP suits moderate-temperature systems requiring flexible corrosion protection.

Common Applications

A lined gate valve is used in pipelines handling aggressive fluids.

Typical applications include:

  • Chemical storage systems
  • Acid and solvent pipelines
  • Water treatment equipment
  • Industrial fluid transfer systems

Selecting the correct lining material helps maintain valve performance and reduce corrosion-related maintenance.

Installation Considerations

Proper installation protects the lining and maintains sealing performance.

Recommended practices:

  1. Check pipeline alignment before installation.
  2. Confirm pressure rating and flow direction.
  3. Avoid excessive flange tightening force.
  4. Inspect lining condition during maintenance.

Damage to the fluoropolymer layer may affect sealing performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PTFE, FEP, and PFA lining?

PTFE provides broad chemical resistance, PFA offers lower permeability and higher temperature capability, while FEP provides flexibility with corrosion protection.

When should a PTFE lined gate valve be selected?

It is suitable for acids, solvents, and corrosive fluids requiring stable chemical resistance.

Why use a fluoropolymer lined gate valve?

The lining separates process fluids from metal components, improving corrosion resistance and sealing reliability.

A PFA, FEP, or PTFE lined gate valve protects industrial pipelines through fluoropolymer lining technology. Selecting the correct material according to chemical media, temperature, and pressure conditions helps maintain reliable flow control in corrosive environments.

FVF Chemical Resistant PFA FEP PTFE Lined Gate Valve

  • FVF gate valve can be divided into rising stem gate valve, which refers to the disc doing lift movement in straight line along with the valve stem, and nonrising stem gate valve which refers to the stem nut located in the disc, when the stem rotates, the disc doing lift movement in straight line.
  • The inner cavity of the valve body and bonnet, the gate, the outer surface of the valve stem and other components that directly contact the medium are all lined with FEP (F46) or PCTFE (F3) and other fluorine materials.
  • The sealing pair are FEP (F46)/ FEP (F46) or combination of other materials, with small friction coefficient and low opening and closing torque.PTFE (F4) is used as the packing, which feactures good sealing performance and convenient maintenance and replacement.
  • FVF lined gate valves are commonly used in chemical, petroleum, pharmaceutical, food, metallurgy, paper, hydropower, environment protection etc.
