A lined globe valve prevents metallic body dissolution and process fluid contamination across corrosive reagent streams operating up to 200°C. Utilizing a transfer-molded perfluoroalkoxy polymer interior bonded to heavy-duty casting walls, this mechanical configuration maintains ANSI FCI 70-2 Class VI bubble-tight shutoff during hot sulfuric acid, chlorine gas, and aggressive organic solvent processing. Chemical processing facilities install these units to control high-permeation media where standard fluoropolymers experience premature gas migration.

Molecular Density and Gas Permeation Barriers

Thermal agitation accelerates corrosive gas migration through fluoropolymer linings, causing metallic shell embrittlement underneath.

While a ptfe lined globe valve functions reliably in moderate temperature chemical transfer, perfluoroalkoxy features a continuous melt-processable backbone with virtually non-porous crystalline morphology. This dense polymer matrix restricts microscopic gas diffusion under pressurized halogen and fuming acid exposure, preserving shell integrity and eliminating sub-liner blisters.

Fluoropolymer Insulation and High-Voltage Integrity

Liner Thickness Range Non-Destructive Spark Test Permeation Constant to Chlorine Maximum Service Temperature
3.0 mm to 3.5 mm 14 kV to 16 kV DC Low molecular migration 150°C continuous
3.5 mm to 4.5 mm 18 kV to 20 kV DC Near-impermeable barrier 180°C continuous
4.5 mm to 6.0 mm 22 kV to 25 kV DC Complete diffusion barrier 200°C continuous

Negative Pressure Resistance and Plug Seat Contact Stress

Sudden vapor condensation creates vacuum spikes that pull unanchored polymer away from metal walls. In severe thermal looping, a pfa lined globe valve utilizes precision-cast T-slots and perforated metal locking shells to mechanically anchor the molded lining against absolute vacuum conditions.

Simultaneously, the spherical plug nose concentrates closing thrust into narrow annular seating bands. This geometry yields high compressive seating stress, offsetting polymer cold flow tendencies and providing consistent Class VI isolation across repeated thermal shocks.

Hermetic Stem Isolation and Throttling Repeatability

Dynamic stem translation represents a common source of fugitive emissions during continuous chemical modulation. Equipping pfa lined globe valves with dual-barrier fluoropolymer sealing cartridges backed by live-loaded disc springs ensures continuous radial compression against moving surfaces.

This design compensates for thermal relaxation throughout fluctuating production runs, delivering linear flow modulation and zero atmospheric leakage across demanding chemical syntheses.
