To prevent acid corrosion in carbon steel piping, install a PTFE lined Y‑type strainer with flange connections (PN10, PN16, or 150LBS). Select PTFE lining for -29°C to 180°C or PFA lining for -29°C to 200°C. The lining isolates fluid from metal, eliminating pitting. This strainer removes particles down to 0.5 mm, protects pumps and valves, and handles sizes DN15-DN300.

The Corrosion and Failure Threat

Hydrochloric and sulfuric acids attack unprotected carbon steel. Pitting, intergranular corrosion, and stress cracking lead to wall penetration and sudden leaks. Applications and Selection Considerations

  1. The PTFE lined strainer is installed upstream of pumps, control valves, flow meters, and spray nozzles to remove abrasive particulates and corrosive carryover.

  2. When specifying, evaluate media type, pressure (PN10, PN16, or 150LBS), temperature range, and mesh size. The PTFE lined pipework ensures complete isolation.

  3. For high‑temperature or permeation‑sensitive services, PFA lined options are available. The PTFE lined tee fittings in the same line maintain the same protection.

  4. The Y‑type design suits horizontal or vertical installation with the screen basket oriented downward.

Installation and Maintenance

Flange connect per torque specs. Use PTFE gaskets matched to media and temperature. Align the screen basket cover for easy access. The strainer supports in‑line cleaning through the blow‑down port or by removing the screen basket. Inspect the PTFE lining for scratches or wear during routine service. Replace the screen basket and gaskets every 12‑18 months. The PTFE lined strainer offers a cost‑effective solution compared to exotic alloys, and the PTFE lined pipe price is lower than solid corrosion‑resistant alloys.
