To prevent metal ion contamination, specify a pfa lined ball valve with flange connections (PN10, PN16, or 150LBS) for high-purity fluid lines. The PFA lining isolates process fluid from the metal body, eliminating metal ion leaching. Choose lining material (PFA: -29°C to 200°C; PTFE: -29°C to 180°C; FEP: -29°C to 150°C) based on process temperature. Select gasket material (PTFE, PFA, or FEP) matched to the fluid and temperature. This lined ball valve supports CIP/SIP protocols, maintains leak-tight sealing, and is available in sizes DN15-DN100.
The Metal Ion Contamination Risk
Metallic valves in high-purity water, buffer, or API lines can leach ions (iron, chromium, nickel) into the fluid. These ions degrade products and violate purity specifications. A pfa lined ball valve creates an inert fluoropolymer barrier between the fluid and all metal surfaces. For applications where a pfa ball valve is specified, the inert lining is essential. Pfa lined ball valves are specifically engineered to eliminate this risk, making them the preferred choice for injectable and biologic production.
Contamination sources eliminated:
-
Metal ion leaching from body and ball
-
Corrosion products from chemical attack
-
Particle shedding from worn metal parts
-
Fluid contact with stem seals
-
Product degradation from ionic catalysis
Lining Design and Material Properties
The valve features an injection-molded PFA lining on the body, ball, and stem, creating a seamless, pore-free barrier. PFA resists strong acids, bases, and solvents. Its non-stick surface prevents product adhesion and eases cleaning. These pfa lined valves are designed for high-purity and corrosive services, offering smooth operation and long service life. The lining thickness and uniformity ensure complete isolation from the metal substrate, even under thermal cycling.
Key design features:
-
Injection-molded PFA lining eliminates pinholes and cracking
-
Full bore design minimizes pressure drop and dead legs
-
Blow-out proof stem prevents stem ejection
-
Bi-directional bubble-tight sealing with TFM seats
-
ISO 5211 mounting pad for actuator attachment
Flange Connection and Pressure Ratings
The valve connects via flange (EN 1092-1, ASME B16.5, JIS) in pressure ratings PN10, PN16, and 150LBS. Flange connection provides a robust, leak-tight joint that withstands thermal cycling and mechanical stress. The pfa lined ball valve is available in both wafer and lugged flange configurations to suit different piping systems.

Gasket and Lining Material Selection
The choice of lining and gasket material determines the valve’s temperature and chemical compatibility. For demanding processes, a pfa lined ball valve offers the widest temperature range, making it suitable for both heated and chilled services.
| Material | Temperature Range | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|
| PTFE | -29°C to +180°C | General pharmaceutical, moderate acids/bases |
| PFA | -29°C to +200°C | High-temperature, aggressive chemicals, high-purity |
| FEP | -29°C to +150°C | Low-temperature service, mild corrosive media |
Applications and Selection Considerations
-
The pfa lined ball valve is installed in buffer preparation systems, chromatography skids, purified water loops, fermentation harvest lines, and CIP supply headers.
-
When specifying, evaluate operating pressure (PN10, PN16, or 150LBS), temperature range, chemical compatibility of the lining and gasket material, and required flow coefficient. For most pharmaceutical lines, pfa lined valves are the preferred choice due to their inertness.
-
For pharmaceutical applications, the valve's zero-leakage sealing and smooth PFA surface support clean-in-place (CIP) and steam-in-place (SIP) protocols.
-
Standard sizes from DN15 to DN100 (1/2″ to 4″) with flange connections cover most process line requirements across different pressure classes. Pfa lined ball valves are also available in larger sizes on request.
Installation and Maintenance
Flange connect the valve per torque specs. Match gasket material to process conditions. Avoid over-torquing to protect the lining. Inspect lining and seals during routine service; replace seat rings every 12-18 months. The valve withstands CIP and SIP up to 150°C.
This valve design ensures purity preservation in biopharma operations where metal ion control is required.
FVF PFA Lined Ball Valve
- FVF ball valve with PFA lining has very high chemical stability, and is applicable for any other strong corrosion media except for molten alkalie and fluorine;
- FVF lined Ball Valve with full-bore and floating-ball structure can close the valve within the whole pressure range ensuring zero leakage, which facilitates the pipeline pigging and pipeline maintenance in the system;
- The integration of closure ball body and valve stem eliminates the possibility that the stem rushes out from pressure-containing parts due to pressure change, which ensures fundamentally the operational safety of the engineering;
- Reasonable and compact structure and minimum cavity of valve body reduce the sediment of the medium, in addition, special molding process, contributing to excellent airtight sealing surface, enables the valve to be zero leaked by combining with herringbone and annular PTFE packing;
