For chemical and petrochemical processing, specify flanged lined ball valves (DN15–DN300, PN10/PN16/150LBS) to handle corrosive fluids that attack bare metals. The PTFE, PFA, or FEP liner isolates the metal body from aggressive media. Select lining material based on operating temperature: PTFE (-29°C to 180°C), PFA (-29°C to 200°C), or FEP (-29°C to 150°C). Gaskets match the lining material (PTFE, PFA, FEP). Install with flanged connections and standard bolting. This design prevents corrosion, leakage, and metal ion contamination.

Corrosion and Leakage: Chemical Pipeline Threats

Chemical processing involves acids, bases, solvents, and oxidizers that corrode standard metallic valves. Pitting and crevice corrosion lead to wall thinning and pinhole leaks. Fugitive emissions pose safety and environmental hazards.

Key threats addressed:

  • 🔥 Corrosion – chemical attack on metallic wetted parts.

  • 💧 Leakage – seal degradation in corrosive service.

  • 🧪 Contamination – metal ions leaching into product streams.

  • ☣️ Safety – flammable or toxic fluid releases.

The ptfe lined ball valve provides resistance to strong acids and oxidizers. The lining prevents direct contact between fluid and metal body.

Design and Operation

The flanged lined ball valve features a metallic body (carbon steel or stainless steel) with a fluoropolymer liner molded inside. The ball is encapsulated in the same lining material. When opened, the ball bore aligns with the flow path for full port flow. Flanged connections (PN10, PN16, or 150LBS) enable direct installation into standard piping systems.

Lining materials and temperature ranges:

  • PTFE – -29°C to 180°C, standard chemical resistance

  • PFA – -29°C to 200°C, higher temperature and permeation resistance

  • FEP – -29°C to 150°C, similar to PTFE with lower melting point

The one-piece ball/stem design eliminates the joint between ball and stem, preventing lining damage. The pfa lined valves construction provides consistent torque and bubble-tight shut-off. Gaskets are manufactured from the same material as the lining (PTFE, PFA, or FEP) to ensure seal compatibility.

Applications in Chemical Processing

Flanged lined ball valves are installed in chemical plants, petrochemical refineries, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Typical service conditions:

  • Media: hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, caustics, organic solvents

  • Temperature: -29°C to 200°C (depending on lining)

  • Pressure: PN10, PN16, or 150LBS

  • Sizes: DN15 to DN300

The pfa lined ball valves are specified for high-temperature and corrosive services. The full bore design provides low pressure drop and high flow capacity.

Lining Material Selection: PTFE, PFA, or FEP

Selection depends on temperature, chemical exposure, and permeation resistance.

Property PTFE PFA FEP
Max temperature 180°C 200°C 150°C
Chemical resistance Excellent Excellent Good
Permeation resistance Moderate High Moderate
Abrasion resistance Good Good Good
Cost Moderate High Moderate

PTFE suits most chemical services. PFA offers higher temperature rating and lower permeation for aggressive media. FEP provides a cost-effective alternative for less demanding applications.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation requires aligning flanges with gaskets (PTFE, PFA, or FEP) and bolting to torque specification. The valve should be installed with actuator accessible. Proper support prevents pipe stress affecting seal integrity.

Maintenance points:

  1. Inspect lining for cracks or deformation.

  2. Check flange bolts for proper torque.

  3. Exercise valve periodically to prevent sticking.

  4. Replace stem seals when leakage occurs.

The fep lined valve offers corrosion resistance for moderate chemical service. All lined valves meet 3A, FDA, or USP Class VI standards for applicable applications.

Why Specify Lined Ball Valves

  1. Isolates metal body from corrosive fluids, preventing wall thinning.

  2. Provides bubble-tight shut-off with precision-machined ball and seats.

  3. Offers full bore flow with low pressure drop.

  4. Supports temperature ranges from -29°C to 200°C with appropriate lining.

  5. Reduces fugitive emissions through robust stem sealing.

The flanged PTFE/PFA/FEP lined ball valve is a solution for chemical processing where corrosion and leakage must be controlled. Its design replaces unlined valves that fail in aggressive service. Specify the appropriate lining material (PTFE, PFA, or FEP) based on process temperature and chemical exposure to ensure reliable performance. The pfa lined valves construction provides service life with reduced maintenance requirements. The ptfe lined ball valve remains the standard choice for general chemical applications.

FVF Flange Type PTFE PFA FEP Lined Ball Valve

  • FVF lined ball valve has very high chemical stability, and is applicable for any other strong corrosion media except for molten alkalie and fluorine;
  • FVF lined ball valve with full-bore and floating-ball structure can close the valve within the whole pressure range ensuring zero leakage, which facilitates the pipeline pigging and pipeline maintenance in the system;
  • The integration of closure ball body and valve stem eliminates the possibility that the stem rushes out from pressure-containing parts due to pressure change, which ensures fundamentally the operational safety of the engineering;
  • Reasonable and compact structure and minimum cavity of valve body reduce the sediment of the medium, in addition, special molding process, contributing to excellent airtight sealing surface, enables the valve to be zero leaked by combining with herringbone and annular PTFE packing;
