A lined globe valve provides flow control and shutoff for corrosive media through full fluoropolymer lining that isolates the metal body from chemical attack. The disc moves vertically along the stem axis, seating against a lined seat. PTFE serves up to 180°C. PFA extends to 200°C. Design standards include ASME B16.34 for pressure-temperature ratings, ASME B16.10 for face-to-face dimensions, and ISO 15848-1 for fugitive emissions.
How to select a lined globe valve based on design standards
-
Verify ASME B16.34 compliance for pressure-temperature ratings.
-
Confirm face-to-face dimensions per ASME B16.10 or EN 558-1.
-
Specify lining: PTFE for standard acids up to 180°C, PFA for hot acids up to 200°C.
-
Ensure fugitive emissions compliance per ISO 15848-1 for stem sealing.
Common Design Pitfalls
-
Non-compliant pressure-temperature ratings → Verify ASME B16.34 rating.
-
Mismatched face-to-face dimensions → Confirm ASME B16.10 or EN 558-1.
-
PTFE above 180°C → Specify PFA for services above 180°C.
-
Ignoring fugitive emissions → Specify ISO 15848-1 for stem sealing.
Design Standards Overview
-
ASME B16.34: Pressure-temperature ratings for valve bodies
-
ASME B16.10: Face-to-face and end-to-end dimensions
-
EN 558-1: European standard dimensions
-
ISO 15848-1: Fugitive emissions testing for stem seals
-
ISO 5211: Mounting dimensions for actuators
Lining Material Selection
A ptfe lined globe valve provides broad chemical resistance for most corrosive services up to 180°C. A pfa lined globe valve extends service to 200°C for chlorine, hot acids, and strong oxidizers. Pfa lined globe valves offer lower permeation for pharmaceutical and semiconductor applications.
| Lining Material | Max Temp | Permeation Resistance | Typical Service |
|---|---|---|---|
| PTFE | -29°C to 180°C | Good | Standard acids, caustic, solvents |
| PFA | -29°C to 200°C | Excellent | Chlorine, hot acids, oxidizers |
| FEP | -29°C to 150°C | Good | Steam, hot water, mild chemicals |
Stem Sealing – Preventing Fugitive Emissions
The stem seal prevents leakage to atmosphere. Lined globe valves use a PTFE bellows as the primary seal and PTFE V-ring packing as the secondary barrier. ISO 15848-1 certified designs achieve Class A or Class B leakage rates.
Sealing features:
-
PTFE bellows: Hermetically seals the product chamber
-
Backup V-ring packing: Secondary sealing if bellows fails
-
Live-loaded spring system: Maintains packing compression
-
Leak-off connection: Monitors bellows integrity
Actuation and Control Options
-
Manual handwheel: Local operation
-
Pneumatic: Remote on-off and modulating control with fail-safe options
-
Electric: Automated control with position feedback
-
ISO 5211 mounting: Standardized actuator installation
Applications
Chemical Processing: Strong acids, chlor-alkali. PTFE/PFA lining, bellows seal, pneumatic or manual actuation.
Pharmaceutical: High-purity API synthesis. PFA lining, electropolished finish, bellows seal, USP Class VI.
Semiconductor: Wet chemicals, ultrapure water. PFA with spark-tested lining, bellows seal.
Water Treatment: Chemical dosing, chlorine injection. PTFE lining, manual or pneumatic actuation.
Design Principles
Lined globe valves are designed to ASME B16.34 for pressure-temperature ratings and ASME B16.10 for face-to-face dimensions. PTFE lined globe valves serve standard acids up to 180°C. PFA lined globe valves extend to 200°C for hot acids and chlorine. Bellows seal designs provide hermetic stem sealing per ISO 15848-1. Live-loaded packing maintains seal integrity under thermal cycling. ISO 5211 mounting enables standardized actuator installation. Zero leakage design eliminates product loss and environmental contamination.
FVF Pneumatic PTFE Lined Globe Valve
- FVF Lined globe valve is fully lined with fluorine materials. It has good anti-corrosive function and it is a better choice to shut-off in corrove pipeline.
- Globe valve refers to the valve with disc driven by stem along the central axis to make lifting movement, is a common block valve, used to connect or throttle medium.
- It has the advantage of compact structure, flexible on-off, strong corrosion resistance, trip shorted and widely applicated in chemical, petroleum, pharmaceutical, food, metallurgy, paper, hydropower, environment protection etc.
- They can be equipped with handwheels or can be actuated with electric or pneumatic actuators. A full range of accessory items are available including limit switches, solenoid valves, positioners and manual override devices.
