To contain sulfuric acid and chlorine, install a PTFE lined globe valve with flange connections (PN10, PN16, or 150LBS). Select lining based on temperature: PTFE (-29°C to 180°C), PFA (-29°C to 200°C), or FEP (-29°C to 150°C). The thick lining isolates media from metal, preventing corrosion leaks. This valve provides precise throttling, handles DN15-DN300, and the rising stem gives visual position indication.
The Corrosion and Safety Threat
Sulfuric acid and chlorine attack unprotected carbon steel. Pitting, intergranular corrosion, and stress cracking lead to wall penetration and sudden releases. These leaks expose workers to toxins, force shutdowns, and damage equipment. A lined globe valve with PTFE or PFA lining stops corrosion at the source.
Failure modes eliminated:
-
Pitting from chloride and acid attack
-
Intergranular corrosion along grain boundaries
-
Stress corrosion cracking from loading
-
Erosion from high-velocity particulates
-
Permeation through unprotected walls
Flange Connection and Pressure Ratings
The valve uses flange connections (EN 1092-1, ASME B16.5, JIS) in PN10, PN16, or 150LBS ratings. Flange joints withstand thermal cycling and mechanical stress. The design fits raised and flat face flanges with centering lugs for alignment. Flanges simplify installation and removal during maintenance.
Lining Material Selection
| Material | Temperature Range | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|
| PTFE | -29°C to +180°C | Sulfuric acid, chlorine, general service |
| PFA | -29°C to +200°C | High-temperature, aggressive chemicals |
| FEP | -29°C to +150°C | Lower temperature, cost-effective |
PTFE and PFA Lined Configurations
The ptfe lined globe valve resists sulfuric acid, chlorine, hydrochloric acid, and most solvents from -29°C to 180°C. The ptfe lined globe valve provides a non-stick surface that prevents media adhesion and eases cleaning. For high-temperature service, the pfa lined globe valve handles up to 200°C with lower permeation. The pfa lined globe valve is specified for aggressive media requiring ultra-low extractables.
Key design features:
-
One-piece investment cast body minimizes leak paths
-
Separate lined disc and body ensure independent sealing
-
Thick lining (2-3 mm) resists erosion
-
Rising stem provides visual position indication
-
ISO 5211 mounting pad for actuator
Applications and Selection Considerations
-
The lined globe valve is used in sulfuric acid transfer lines, chlorine service, hydrochloric acid handling, caustic service, and organic solvent systems.
-
When selecting, evaluate media type, pressure (PN10, PN16, or 150LBS), temperature range, and flow control accuracy. For most acid and chlorine lines, a ptfe lined globe valve provides a reliable solution.
-
For high-temperature or permeation-sensitive services, the pfa lined globe valve is preferred due to its higher temperature rating and lower permeation.
-
The straight-through design suits precise throttling and visual position indication. Standard sizes cover DN15-DN300 with flange connections.
Installation and Maintenance
Flange connect per torque specs. Use gaskets matched to media and temperature. Align disc with seat to prevent binding. Avoid over-torquing. The valve supports in-line inspection. Lubricate stem threads annually. Replace lining and seals every 3-5 years depending on service.
This valve design protects personnel and assets where unprotected metal valves pose continuous corrosion and safety risks.
FVF PTFE Lined Two-Way Globe Valve
- FVF Lined globe valve is fully lined with fluorine materials. It has good anti-corrosive function and it is a better choice to shut-off in corrove pipeline.
- Globe valve refers to the valve with disc driven by stem along the central axis to make lifting movement, is a common block valve, used to connect or throttle medium.
- It has the advantage of compact structure, flexible on-off, strong corrosion resistance, trip shorted and widely applicated in chemical, petroleum, pharmaceutical, food, metallurgy, paper, hydropower, environment protection etc.
