A ptfe lined pipe expansion joint suits flue gas desulfurization slurry lines exposed to acidic liquids, chlorides, suspended solids, thermal movement, and equipment vibration. PTFE forms the process-contact barrier, while the flexible bellows absorb pipe movement around pumps, absorbers, and other connected equipment.

Why FGD Slurry Needs Corrosion Protection

Wet FGD slurry can contain chloride, fluoride, sulfate, and suspended solids. These conditions can increase corrosion and erosion in unprotected metal piping, especially when temperature and slurry velocity rise.

A teflon lined pipe separates the process medium from the structural metal. The expansion joint also absorbs movement that rigid lined piping cannot accommodate.

Common Piping Loads

A suitable lined expansion joint can accommodate:

  • Thermal expansion and contraction
  • Pump-induced vibration
  • Installation misalignment
  • Axial displacement
  • Lateral movement
  • Angular movement

How a PTFE Lined Expansion Joint Works

A ptfe lined expansion joint combines a flexible bellows with a PTFE process-contact layer. The bellows deform within their rated movement range, reducing loads transferred to flanges, pumps, and vessel nozzles.

A three-convolution design can provide movement capacity, while reinforcement rings, tie rods, outer shells, or hinges can be added for specific operating conditions.

Materials and Published Specifications

The stainless steel expansion joint uses PTFE with stainless steel for the bellows assembly. Flange materials include A105, SS304, or SS316, while the vacuum ring uses SS304 with PTFE.

Specification Published Value
Type PTFE lined stainless steel expansion joint
Connection Flange
Temperature −50°C to 180°C
Flange material A105 / SS304 / SS316
Bellows PTFE + stainless steel
Vacuum ring SS304 + PTFE
Standard convolutions 3
Movement Axial / lateral / angular

These values apply to the listed configuration. Pressure and movement limits still depend on size, reinforcement, temperature, and installation conditions.

PTFE Lined Pipe vs. Metal Piping

A ptfe lined carbon steel pipe combines a carbon steel structure with a PTFE wetted layer. Stainless steel provides another material option where corrosion resistance and mechanical properties must be balanced.

PTFE can resist many corrosive chemicals, but concentration, temperature, pressure, permeation, and exposure time should be checked for the actual slurry service.

Where Flexible Compensation Adds Value

A lined piping system benefits from expansion joints at locations affected by movement or vibration:

  • FGD slurry circulation lines
  • Absorber outlet piping
  • Pump suction and discharge sections
  • Slurry transfer headers
  • Connections near vibrating equipment

Why Corrosion Protection Alone Is Not Enough

Rigid piping may transfer thermal and mechanical loads directly to equipment connections. A lined expansion joint adds movement capacity while maintaining the PTFE barrier between the slurry and metal structure.

This combination is useful where chemical exposure and mechanical displacement occur in the same piping section.

Selection Points for FGD Systems

The selection process should follow the actual operating conditions:

  1. Confirm slurry composition, solids content, temperature, and pressure.
  2. Calculate axial, lateral, and angular movement.
  3. Check PTFE compatibility with the complete chemical mixture.
  4. Match flange dimensions and equipment nozzle requirements.
  5. Verify vacuum conditions, reinforcement, and movement limits.

Slurry velocity should also be reviewed because suspended solids can cause mechanical wear even when the PTFE material remains chemically compatible.

Where the Expansion Joint Fits

A ptfe lined pipe system can combine corrosion protection with controlled movement when the compensator matches the process conditions. In FGD applications, the PTFE layer addresses chemical exposure while the bellows absorb thermal and equipment movement.

The result is a practical solution for slurry piping sections where rigid connections face both corrosive media and mechanical displacement.

FVF PTFE Lined Stainless Steel Expansion Joint

  • Expansion joint is also called bellow or compensator.FVF lined expansion joint is composed of metal bellows and PTFE.
  • Its working principle is to use its own elastic deformation function to compensate the axial, angular, lateral and combined displacement of the pipeline due to thermal deformation, mechanical deformation and various mechanical vibrations, and the compensation effect.
  • Expansion joints come with three convolutions as a standard.More than three convolutions can be customized and the more convolutions, the more movement an expansion joint will provide.Various reinforcements of rings and outer shells are available for high pressures, temperatures or vacuum performance. Tie rods and hinges are designed to limit maximum and minimum movements or preventing movement altogether in certain planes.
  • With the functions of pressure resistance, sealing, corrosion resistance, temperature resistance, impact resistance, vibration reduction and noise reduction, it can reduce the deformation of the pipeline and improve the service life of the pipeline.
